Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
